About Sergiev Posad
Sergiev Posad (founded in 1345, population 115,000) - the spiritual center of Russia. Sergiev Posad is the ancient town, which tributes St Sergius of Radonezh, founder of the local Trinity Monastery and patron saint of all of Russia. The monastery has been the center of Orthodoxy and culture for centuries. The oldest building in the monastery is Trinity Cathedral (1422-1425) – which is also the heart of the Trinity monastery. Here the tomb of St Sergius is located. The icon-festooned interior, lit by oil lamp, is largely the work of the great medieval painter Andrei Rublyov. Another magnificent monument – is Cathedral of the Assumption, which was built in 1585 with money left by Ivan the Terrible (Russian tzar) in a fit of remorse for killing his son. Outside the west door is the grave of Boris Godunov and the members of his family.

Main attractions
The town is "scattered", many its quarters are remoted from each other. The town is crossed by the river Kanchura with its inflows. On some of them the dams are constructed. The coast of reservoirs are low, but, nevertheless, they recover landscapes and create necessary open space for perception of grandiose monuments of the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra. Through all the town the highway Moscow-Yaroslavl passes. In the town there are rather large industrial enterprises located, fortunately, far from the centre. Sergiev Posad can be considered as advanced scientific centre. There are the research institutes of toys and poultry-keeping, that allow us to believe, that the toys made in this town are most scientific, and a bird is most investigated. In the Lavra the Spiritual Seminary and Moscow Spiritual Academy function. Thus, the town is harmoniously combined of an industry, science, tourism and even of "spiritual industry".
